(Not so) Common Blue Butterfly

Wednesday 15 March 2017

Common Blue Butterfly

As recently as 5 years ago, the Common Blue butterfly could usually be seen along the lovely stretch of coast between Ruby Bay and Ardross during the months of June, July and August.

Sadly, recent winter storms have caused coastal erosion and loss of their food plants.

Elie Estate has supported an initiative in conjunction with SNH, Fife Coast & Countryside Trust and volunteers from Butterfly Conservation in planting a range of wild flowers along the Coastal Path to encourage the return of the Common Blue butterfly to this area.

Please keep an eye out for this beautiful small butterfly and report any sightings to:  fifebutterflies@eastscotland-butterflies.org.uk
