Competition is rife in Fife

Sunday 28 October 2012

Newly baled straw in the evening sunEvery year the Fife Agricultural Association run a competition between member farmers to judge the quality of their arable crops. This year there were 37 entries in 3 categories: Winter Barley, Spring Barley and Wheat. Balcaskie's in-hand farming operation enters, as does at least one of our let farms, Abercrombie. The winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) this year were as follows: Winter Barley: J. Dawson (Seggie Farm), L. Ashworth (Abercrombie), J. Marshall (Pitkierie) Spring Barley: M. Logan (Kirkmay), J. Marshall (Pitkierie), L. Ashworth (Abercrombie) Wheat: A. Stevenson (Bonerbo), R. Balfour (Balbirnie), J. Dawson (Seggie) So no prizes for Lochty Farms this year, but our congratulations to the winners, including Lindsay & Marjory Ashworth of Abercrombie. We look forward to 2013!
