Community growing land on offer for St Monans

Monday 6 May 2013

Food from Fife

Balcaskie has offered to set up some land for community growing for St Monans and end what has been a very long search by some members of the St Monans Allotment Association for land for growing their own food.

Discussions are at an early stage, but it is hoped that Fife Council and others will approve the site, at Bowhouse Farm (just outside St Monans) and the community growing land can be up and running this autumn as soon as crops have been harvested from the field.

The community growing land, it is hoped, will complement Balcaskie's hopes for the development of a local food hub at Bowhouse.  This would see the creation of a number of food-production units as well as a large, covered communal space for markets and other activities.

Discussions with Fife Council are ongoing.
